Instructions for Searching Daily Staff Journals and Photos on The Virtual Vietnam Archive Texas Tech University

1.) The web address is www.vietnam.ttu.edu

2.) When you reach the home page click on the Virtual Vietnam Archive link.

3.) The next page has a fair use statement. Click the I agree button.

4.) The next page is the simple search page. On this page there are links to obtain Adobe Acrobat Reader. The daily staff journals are stored as .pdf files, which means you will need an Adobe Acrobat reader to view the document. The Adobe Acrobat reader is free software you can download to your computer.

5.) If you already have an Acrobat Reader click the advanced search button.

6.) On the advanced search page there are many options to help narrow your search. The first thing you need to do is click on the collection title button next to the collection title box. Check the box next to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Division Association Collection and then click on the paste term button. You will be automatically directed back to the advanced search page.

7.) In the Subject/Keyword box type in Daily Staff Journal.

8.) In the Date box type in the date you are searching, for example: 1/8/1968 to 1/15/1968 (Always use this number format mm/dd/yyyy for searching for specific dates)

9.) In the media type box choose the document option.

10.) Click on the search button and your search will begin.

11.) After the search has completed the page will show you how many records retrieved. Click on display to view the records.

12.) You will now see the links to the documents you have searched for. In order to view the documents click on the cavalry icon

13.) The searching process produces about 25 links per webpage. To view the next set of records click on the next records link.

14.) To view subject information about the document click on the full report button

Photograph Search

1.) When searching for photographs go to the advanced search page.

2.) Click on the collection title button next to the collection title box. Check the box next to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Division Association Collection and then click on the paste term button. You will be automatically directed back to the advanced search page.

3.) In the Date box type in the date you are searching (Always use this number format mm/dd/yyyy for searching for specific dates)

4.) In the media type box choose the photograph option.

5.) Click on the search button and your search will begin.

6.) After the search has completed the page will show you how many records retrieved. Click on display to view the records.

7.) You will now see the links to the photographs you have searched for. In order to view the photographs click on the photo thumbnail.

8.) The searching process produces about 25 links per webpage. To view the next set of records click on the next records link.

9.) To view subject information about the document click on the full report button

To find pictures not reunion related type the collection name into the Subject/Keyword box click the not option and type reunion in the second box. Hit the search button. You can also search by a persons name in the Subject/Keyword box. For example, type in Braun.
